STEAM Night, promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math education for children, to take place at Caroline Elementary School on April 27
The Caroline Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTA) will host its annual STEAM night on Thursday, April 27from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm at Caroline Elementary. This event is FREE and open to all elementary students in the area and their families.
STEAM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math and was developed by the National Science Foundation (STEM) and the Rhode Island School of Design (+A) to promote STEAM education for earlier grades. During STEAM Night at Caroline, parents and children will move from station to station, participating in different activities geared towards teaching STEAM principles.
Organizations setting up activity stations confirmed at the time of this press release include: BorgWarner Morse Systems, Boynton Middle School Sixth Grade Science, Caroline Elementary Art Program, Caroline Elementary Pre-K, Caroline Elementary Kindergarten, Caroline Elementary Library, Caroline Elementary STEM Club, Cayuga Nature Center, Community Science Institute, Cornell Biomedical Engineering Society, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County GO SOLAR, Cornell Engineering World Health, Cornell EYES (Encouraging Young Engineers and Scientists), Cornell FSAE (Formula Car Racing), Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Cornell National Society of Black Engineers, Cornell Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Ithaca College Women in Computing, Ithaca High School Technology Student Association, Ithaca Physics Bus, Quinn Energy, STEMovators, TAITEM Engineering, The Indian Milk & Honey Co., Marla Coppolino The Snail Wrangler, Tompkins County Public Library, and Women in Computing at Cornell.

Be sure to stop by the library to explore these new hands-on activities. From robots to circuits to duct tape, you’ll be sure to find some good tinkering opportunities in the library!
Every family will receive a map of the organization locations and a description of the various activities when they arrive at the school. A limited number of promotional STEAM bags and a STEAM-related book will be given away for free to families when they arrive. A fresh and healthy meal prepared by Chef Roy Despaigne including vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available for purchase in the school cafeteria from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Save room for dessert–families can sample Emmy’s Organics Coconut Cookies or That Indian Drink probiotic yogurt lassi, or make their own ice cream with Cornell EYES or a smoothie with Cornell Cooperative Extension! Financial and in-kind support for this fun event is generously provided by Emmy’s Organics, Ithaca Hummus, Ithaca Soy, The Indian Milk & Honey Co., Wegmans, and the Caroline Elementary PTA.
